Work is an essential part of the monastic routine as it is of all life. Through our work we contribute to the upkeep of the monastery. Most of the work is manual and includes cooking, gardening, cleaning, laundry, sewing, etc., while some is artistic and creative, cards and crafts. There is also the task of organising the monastery and the very important work of caring for the sick and elderly. All this work provides a healthy balance to the intense prayer life of an enclosed community. The daily rhythm of prayer, work, solitude and community creates a sense of order and calm which fosters the growth of the spiritual life.
